It is crucial for women experiencing domestic violence to be seen and for their distress to be recognized by others. We hope that our new clients will also quickly find a connection in one of our women’s groups that have formed in recent years.
Women from within our social work efforts - mothers of children with disabilities, women living in poverty, family caregivers - have expressed a desire to come together, share their problems and their joys, read the Bible and pray for each other. Our staff didn’t need to be asked twice and speedily organized the meetings. Our co-worker, Anila, now looks after six to seven groups that have come together to support and encourage each other.
The meetings are one of the few moments in the women’s lives when they are relaxed, happy and cheerful. Telling their stories is therapeutic for them, offering a safe space to heal and restore their inner strength.
